Community Outreach Programs

Easter Seals Arc is devoted to serving 1,500 children and adults throughout its 16-county district in northeast Indiana.  Our organization is also proud of its ability to extend its resources through four community grant award programs.  Easter Seals Arc's Community Outreach programs allow your contributions to create solutions and change lives in your own community!

Adopt-A-Family Program

The Adopt-A-Family program is designed to act as a short term subsidy program for families in financial need while they continue using Easter Seals Arc's programs.  Qualified applicants must be enrolled in Easter Seals Arc's Child Care, Respite or Rehabilitation & Work Services programs.  The Adopt-A-Family program accepts donations from the community toward the support of this program.

Assistive Technology Award Program

The Assistive Technology Award program is designed to aid families in purchasing specialized equipment that will optimize their child's learning capabilities.

In the past, we have assisted in the purchase of:  communication devices, specialized computers and software, orthotics, splints, wheelchairs, hearing aids, speech aids, postioning/therapeutic equipment, van lifts, etc.

Only students who are classified as developmentally disabled (which includes diagnoses such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, Downs Syndrome, autism) and are enrolled in Special Education will be eligible to receive funding from the Assistive Technology Award Program.  Qualified counties in northeast Indiana include:  Adams, Allen, Blackford, DeKalb, Elkhart, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, St. Joseph, Wabash, Wells and Whitley.  The Assistive Technology brochures are sent annually to all special education directors or directly to teachers in September and are due by November 30th.  Awards are granted by December 31st.

Sue Schmidt Recreation Award Program

The Sue Schmidt Recreation Award provides financial assistance to men and women who participate in the activities of the Easter Seals Arc recreation program. Grants will be awarded to clients or their families on the basis of financial need.

Medical Cost Relief Fund

The Medical Cost Relief Fund is designed to provide financial aid to families of a person who has a developmental disability and is considering undergoing or has undergone experimental or non-traditional medical procedures.  The award may cover private insurance deductibles, non-covered portions from all other funding sources or the outright cost of the medical procedure or equipment.  Currently, this fund is available only for Easter Seals Arc program participants and former program participants.
