Easter Seals Arc is one of the only Adult Foster Care providers in the area for individuals who can’t live independently and need assistance with medication, daily living skills, safety, etc. People served through this program live with a foster family in a home environment–an appealing option for older people who don’t have biological families available. The foster families, called householders, are recruited, trained and supervised by caseworkers who conduct monthly home visits. Adults enter the Foster Care Program through the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities. An adult foster care parent opens his or her home and heart to provide guidance and support that will, in many cases, assist individuals in acquiring new skills and become fully integrated members of the community. Qualifications for becoming an Adult Foster Care Provider include: A resident of Allen County, at least 21 years old, in good physical and mental health, excellent in communication, interest or empathy for people who have a disability, complete training in CPR First Aid, and medication administration, pass police background checks, cooking, menu planning and budgeting experience.
